New Trailer: Furious 7

I’ll start off by saying that I’ve never been a big fan of the Fast & Furious movies. I enjoyed the first 2, but I don’t like how they’ve gotten progressively more exaggerated with both the movie’s plot as well as the stunts. With that being said I have seen all 6 of the previous films so that alone makes me somewhat interested in seeing the latest chapter in the Fast & Furious franchise.

Also, this movie just plain ol’ looks badass. I really hope the plot is somewhat coherent and not just a bunch of cool stunts and shots slapped together to form a movie. I like the addition of Jason Statham as the new villain, plus I’m interested to see how they dealt with Paul Walker’s death.

The addition’s of Kurt Russell, Dijimon Hounson(Blood Diamond)  and Rounda Rousey are promising as well.

I haven’ really liked the past few Fast & Furious films, I hope Furious 7 is the exception.

Furious 7 is set to come out in theaters on April 3rd.

New Trailer: Focus

It’s been some time since Will Smith made a movie that I really wanted to see. Focus looks like a great con-man drama with a fairly original plot. It reminds me of a mix of Matchstick Men(2003) and the Oceans Eleven movies. The film’s cast is comprised of a few lesser known actors along with Will Smith and the beautiful Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street). I  think this trailer gives a little too much away as far as the movie’s plot goes, but I’m still very much interested in watching the film.

Focus is scheduled to come out in theaters in a few weeks on February 27th. I can’t wait to go see it.

Movie Review: The Interview

3.5  The Interview

I finally got around to watching The Interview (it’s now on Netflix btw), and it was pretty much what I expected. It’s a pretty funny movie, but it’s nothing extraordinary. There was a lot of controversy surrounding the film’s release, and honestly I think it was all blown out of proportion. This is a comedy after all, the political issues definitely take a back seat to the silly jokes and gags in the film.

The movie was funny, but I wouldn’t put it in the same category as Superbad or the Pineapple Express. The film had its moments, and I did laugh multiple times, but overall the jokes were nothing special. Basically, it made me laugh, but it wasn’t anything I hadn’t seen before.

Seth Rogen and James Franco as always have fabulous chemistry on screen. These weren’t necessarily the best or the funniest characters that they’ve portrayed together, but their friendship in the movie is actually pretty heartwarming.

The movie’s plot was pretty straightforward, there were no real surprises or plot twists, I already knew what was going to happen, I just wanted to actually see it take place.

I wish they could have gotten more out of the supporting characters, but I really did enjoy the celebrity cameos early on in the film.

Overall, The Interview is a funny movie that is good, but not great in any single area. If you’re a fan of Seth Rogen & James Franco’s previous work then I’d definitely recommend it, but I know this isn’t the type of movie that will appeal to a broad audience. (3.5/5)

New Trailer: Child 44

Now this movie looks really really good. Child 44 is based on a novel by Tom Rob Smith. The cast is amazing, with actors like Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, & Gary Oldman I don’t see how this could be a bad film. The plot seems really interesting, I’m always a fan of mystery thrillers, and period pieces. The film is set in Soviet Russia and I like the fact that even though the characters are talking in English they speak with a Russian accent, which I appreciate. It’s always bugged me when in period pieces characters seem to talk in a British accent no matter what time period or place they are in. Having the characters speak with an accent helps add a bit of authenticity in my mind. I’m really looking forward to this movie.

Child 44 is set to come out in theaters on April 17th.

New Trailer: Fantastic Four

This is the first trailer for the new reboot of the Fantastic Four movie franchise. I’m still not sure how I feel about this movie yet. I like the cast, but I don’t know if they would have been my first choice for their roles. The trailer doesn’t show much, but seeing the actual 4 characters does get me a little bit more excited for things.

Fantastic Four is set to come out in theaters on August 7th.

New Trailer: Get Hard

Get Hard is an upcoming comedy featuring 2 of the funniest men in the world, Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart. I have to say, this looks really really funny. The plot isn’t the most original, it reminds me a bit of Malibu’s Most Wanted & Let’s Got to Prison, but it still looks hilarious. With those two leading men, I could see this movie doing big numbers in the box office. I can’t wait to go see it.

Get Hard is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 27th.

New Trailer: Avengers Age of Ultron

This is without a doubt the movie I am looking forward to the most in 2015. The first Avengers movie is one of my favorite films of all time, and it’s the 3rd highest grossing movie ever in the US. I can’t wait for Age of Ultron to come out. James Spader seems like a fantastic choice for the villain, and I already know I love the original cast. This is going to be good.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is scheduled to come out in theaters on May 1st.

Movie Review: How to Train Your Dragon 2

5 How to Train Your Dragon 2

I watched How to Train Your Dragon 2 at home this week and I loved it. I really can’t remember why I didn’t get around to watching in theaters last year, but I’m glad I finally caught it. I really enjoyed the first film, it is one of the best non-Pixar animated movies that I have ever seen. How to Train Your Dragon 2 is even better than the first one, it keeps all the good things from the first film and improves many aspects as well. The film has some of the best visuals I have ever seen in an animated film, the animators really did a fantastic job creating all the environments and landscapes. There are more than a handful of beautiful scenes of dragons flying in the sky in front of beautiful backgrounds.

The voice-acting is excellent with huge start like Jonah Hill, Gerard Butler and Cate Blanchett doing excellent jobs in bringing their characters to life. The film explores many themes, one of them being family. There were a couple of key moments that made me tear up, I’m a sucker for family drama what can I say.

In the end, How to Train Your Dragon 2 is a fantastic film, with a refreshingly creative story that never ceases to have truly hilarious moments, as well as heartwarming dramatic moments, and pulse pounding action sequences. This movie truly has it all, and I can’t think of anything that I didn’t like about it. Even if you haven’t seen the first film, I can’t recommend this one enough. 5/5

Movie Trailer: Chappie

Chappie is the creation of South African director Neil Blomkamp (Distric 9). The story reminds me a bit of the 1980’s classic Short Circuit. A robot with emotions has been done before in movies like Wall-E, but this film seems to take things to a different direction. There are themes of artificial intelligence and the future of robotics that pose some interesting questions. The cast seems great as well with Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Sigourney Weaver (Alien) and Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire). Chappie seems like a fairly unique science fiction movie from a director with a proven track record. I look forward to seeing it.

Chappie is scheduled to come out in theaters on March 6th

Movie Trailer: The Lazarus Effect

I have to say, I’m not usually a fan of horror films, I personally don’t find many of those films to be enjoyable. With that being said The Lazarus Effect looks pretty damn good. I’ve only seen the trailer and I’m already interested in the story. Compared to most of the films being made nowadays this seems like a pretty unique & creative idea.

The cast is great too, I recognized a bunch of faces, Olivia Wilde (House), Mark Duplass (The League), and Donald Glover/Childish Gambino (Community).

This is one of the few “horror films” that I’m actually looking forward to seeing.

The Lazarus Effect is scheduled to come out in theaters on February 27th.
