22 Jump Street (6/14/14)

4.5 22 Jump Street

Just got back from watching 22 Jump Street and it was hilarious!! So funny. I don’t know if I can say it was better than the first one but it was right up there. I especially love how they poked fun at the fact that it’s a sequel throughout the whole movie. Jonah Hill is hilarious as always but it was Channing Tatum who surprised me, he’s definitely gotten better at comedy, he’s so good at playing the loveable jock who isn’t too bright. Really the chemistry between Hill & Tatum is what makes the movie, they just go so well together. Keep an eye out for the Yang twins too they’re too funny. It wasn’t a perfect movie but it was pretty damn close, I was laughing pretty much the whole time, and at the end of the day that’s all I need in a comedy. 4.5/5

X-Men: Days of Future Past (6/5/14)

4.5 X-Men: Days of Future Past

Just got back from watching X-Men: Days of Future Past and it was amazing. If you’re a fan of any of the previous X-Men movies you’re going to love this one. Literally everyone is in it, it’s really cool to see characters from different movies interact with each other. The movie is a little complicated so you have to pay attention if you don’t want to get lost, there is time travel and other complicated things involved so it can get a little confusing but it never slows down the movie, it’s always enjoyable. There is no 1 real villain in the movie but even so the stakes have never been higher, I thoroughly enjoyed watching all the action unfold. The performances by the actors were great as well especially Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy who nail every emotional and intense scene in the movie. I don’t know if you’ll enjoy the movie as much if you haven’t seen any of the previous ones, but nevertheless it’s a very well made, very enjoyable movie. Also if you stay after the credits there is a scene that sets up the next X-Men movie called X-Men: Apocalypse which comes out in 2016, it looks pretty badass. 4.5/5

The Amazing Spiderman 2 (5/2/14)

4 The Amazing Spiderman 2

Watched the Amazing Spiderman 2 today and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was much better than the first one, and honestly I think it’s the best Spiderman movie to date including the original trilogy. The acting was very good, Andrew Garfield is a much better Spiderman than Tobey Maguire, he’s very funny and nails all the emotional scenes. His chemistry with Emma Stone is second to none. Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan were fantastic as well, they both did really good job portraying the villains. Their characters aren’t just evil, they are relatable, you understand why they do what they do. I do wish they’d spent more time focused on Electro though, I find his character fascinating. There were a few plot holes and some over the top scenes but it’s understandable, they had to fit a lot into a limited amount of time. As always the action scenes were beautifully shot and really well made. There were more than a handful of emotional moments in the movie and they all got to me. This movie will make you laugh, it will make you cry, it will make you cheer, etc. Simply put it is just a very very good movie. 4/5

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (5/1/14)

4 Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Watched Captain America 2 today and i have to say it was quite good. Its not as good as the Avenger but its most definitely better than the first Captain America. It has a more serious tone overall and the action sequences are great. All the fight scenes are expertly choreographed, and the plot is interesting as well. There are more than a few plot holes and the dialogue is cheesy at times but you kind of have to expect that from a superhero movie. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed it. 4/5

Need for Speed (3/16/14)

4 Need for Speed

Just got back from watching Need for Speed and I loved it. The movie is beautifully shot, all the action sequences are expertly choreographed and the story is very intriguing. Its a classic revenge tale and Aaron Paul is great as always. Need for Speed is so much better than any of the Fast & Furious movies, its not just another dumb action movie. I can’t say enough good things about it. 4/5

Non-Stop (3/8/14)

3 Non-Stop

Watched Non-Stop in theaters today and it was not bad at all. It definitely had its cheesy moments and more than a few plot holes but it ended up being better than I expected. Liam Neeson plays pretty much the same character he always plays in these types of movies and the rest of the cast was pretty underused. The best thing about the movie is the mystery surrounding who the real bad guy is, the filmmakers do a great job by keeping you guessing the whole time. Overall its a good not great movie. 3/5
