I watched Lucy today and I have to say, even though it’s not the best movie out there right now, I still very much enjoyed it. The film deals with a lot of interesting subjects and themes regarding the brain and human being’s potential. It poses a lot of questions regarding what we would be able to do if we increased our brains capacity, which I find fascinating. The movie uses a lot of footage of wild animals especially when talking about human evolution which I thought was very clever. It’s an action movie after all so of course all the action scenes and stunts were really well made. There is one chase scene in particular that comes to mind. The movie deals with a super powered character so it’s fun to see how they show the powers on screen. There isn’t much to say about Scarlett Johansson’s performance, during most of the movie she talks in a monotone voice and shows no emotion so there isn’t really that much to analyze. One thing I didn’t like about the movie though was the lack of a credible antagonist. It’s hard to take the villains seriously when they don’t really pose a threat to the protagonist. The climax of the movie isn’t very suspenseful because deep down you already know what is going to happen. There are more than a few plot holes and the dialogue is nothing to write home about but let’s be honest, this is not an award winning film or anything of the sort. It is however a creative, somewhat unique and entertaining movie, so I would recommend it. 3.5/5
